NOF
Responds to Calls Regarding Recent AP Article
on Osteoporosis
On July 26th, the Associated
Press released an article on trends in
osteoporosis treatment, which was carried in
newspapers across the country. Since the
article appeared, NOF has received numerous
calls from patients who believed the article
revealed a link between three medications
approved for osteoporosis (alendronate,
risedronate and raloxifene) and heart
problems, breast cancer and other health
risks.
The article was referring to Women's Health
Initiative, which found a link between
estrogen therapy and increased risks for
breast cancer and cardiovascular disease.
