THE NATIONAL OSTEOPOROSIS FOUNDATION REMEMBERS
PROF . PIERRE DELMAS
Washington, D.C. (July 24, 2008) – The National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) mourns the passing of Pierre D. Delmas, M.D., Ph.D. of Lyon, France. Prof. Delmas was an internationally recognized expert in the areas of osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease. He authored more than 400 articles, reviews and chapters in international scientific journals and textbooks. Dr. Delmas served as founding president of the International Osteoporosis Foundation (IOF), for which he initiated numerous global educational, clinical and research programs on osteoporosis.
“My dear friend and esteemed colleague advanced so many areas of research into osteoporosis and metabolic bone disease ” said Dr. Lindsay. “He leaves as a legacy multiple advances into the causes, risk factors and treatment of osteoporosis. His dedication to the field will be remembered for years to come.”
Dr. Lindsay served with Dr. Delmas as editors-in-chief of Osteoporosis International, a scientific publication co-published by NOF and IOF.
“His leadership of IOF improved the lives of osteoporosis patients throughout the world,” said Ethel Siris, M.D., immediate past president of NOF and fellow IOF Board Member. “We will miss him greatly.”
