National Osteoporosis Foundation Shares A Gift from Mothers to Daughters: Fashion, Diamonds and Strong Bones
New York City (September 24, 2008) – On the high heels of New York fashion week, the National Osteoporosis Foundation (NOF) is hosting A Gift from Mothers to Daughters luncheon for New York City’s most notable mothers and daughters at The Pierre Hotel on Wednesday, September 24, 2008 from 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. to celebrate all the things women love best: fashion, diamonds and strong bones.
The afternoon will include a high-end silent auction and a fashion show from couture designer J. Mendel with jewels by Harry Winston, known as the “king of diamonds.” The show will be announced by the legendary supermodel, Carmen Dell’Orefice.
A Gift from Mothers to Daughters luncheon is a celebration of one of the most important gifts that generations of women have passed on to their families: the gift of knowledge about health – especially information about bone health and osteoporosis.
Osteoporosis and low bone mass affect more than 44 million Americans—2.8 million in New York alone. A woman’s risk of breaking her hip from osteoporosis is equal to the combined risk of breast, ovarian and uterine cancer. While osteoporosis is highly preventable and treatable, it continues to be under recognized, under diagnosed and under managed.
The luncheon will gather prominent community and social leaders to share information on bone health and osteoporosis. NOF will present the Generation Award to five distinguished women: Jane E. Brody of the New York Times; Margo Catsimatidis, business woman and health advocate; Mary and Carol Higgins Clark, bestselling mother and daughter authors; and Ivana Trump, entrepreneur. This award honors influential women committed to delivering the message of good health and disease prevention to women everywhere.
“There is nothing more fashionable than a room full of women celebrating strength and strong bones,” said Carol Saline, vice chair of A Gift from Mothers to Daughters and NOF Board Member. “We must teach our daughters to care as much about our bones as we do about our appearance. With that simple message, we can save a whole generation of women from the devastating effects of osteoporosis.”
NOF thanks the host committee of this important event, including Sharon Marantz Walsh, Carmen Dell’Orefice, Carol Saline, NOF Trustee, Judy Abrams, Prince Marco and PrincessAnn Marie Borghese, Countess Nubia Braschi, Francesca Braschi-Gumina, Dr. Sheldon Cherry, Tony Cointreau, Matilda Cuomo, Jill Eikenberry, Mercedes Ellington, Nancy Glass, Janet Hubert, Patti LaBelle, Adrienne Landau, Ellen Levine, Joni Lysett Nelson, Peter Martino, Gilles Mendel, Melba Moore, Natalie Morales, Georgette Mosbacher, Dr. Paula Moynahan, Tina Radziwill, Joan Rivers, Melissa Rivers, Cokie Roberts, Jim Russo, Susan Sarandon, Catherine Saxton, Charles B.
